MANKATO CONFERENCE of the MN District of the WELS

Brothers of the Minnesota District,

The Mankato Conference is looking forward to hosting you for the Spring Minnesota District Pastor’s Conference April 9-11.  The theme of the conference this year is “Every Church A Mission”.  The conference will take place at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Owatonna, MN.  It is located at 2365 43rd St. NW Owatonna.  Their phone number is 507.446.8900.  This year you are responsible to make your own reservation at the hotel and arrange your own roommate.  There are rooms with two double beds and rooms with a single king.  There are also a limited number of family suites available.  The deadline for making your reservation is March 10 to be guaranteed the conference rate of $99.  Check-in is at 4 p.m.  Wristbands for the waterpark are provided for each person in the room (up to 5 per room).  The waterpark is on winter schedule so it is open from 3-9 p.m. each day.

Conference Registration

Registration for the conference itself is made through the district website www.welsmn.org.  Registration should be made no later than March 16th.  Easter is early this year which moves our conference date earlier.  Do not delay in making your arrangements and getting your registration done.  Fees for the conference are as follows:

  • $160 for those registering by March 16.
  • $180 for those registering after March 16. (Final deadline to register is March 20)
  • $25 non-attendance fee.
  • $50 spouse registration.
  • $25 per child 6 years and over.

Monday Meal and Opening Worship

The Monday evening meal and opening worship service are both held at the Conference Center.  The meal begins at 5:30 p.m. in the pre-conference area just outside conference room.  The meal is Tex-Mex dinner buffet with a children’s option of chicken fingers.  There is space for around 100 to eat at a time.  If you are able to eat earlier and make room for others coming later it would be greatly appreciated.  Worship with Holy Communion is in the conference room and begins at 7 p.m.

Meals and Tuesday Banquet

All meals will be in the area just outside the conference room.  Seating will be available at all meals other than Monday dinner in the conference area.  There is a hot breakfast each day.  The banquet meal on Tuesday evening features your choice of roast breast of turkey served with pan gravy or sliced roast beef with mushroom gravy, or a vegetarian option of Spinach Tortelloni topped with sun-dried tomato cream sauce.  Please indicate your choice during online registration. If you require gluten-free, please indicate this also when you register.  Entertainment that evening is provided by Mr. Chris Driesbach.  This will also be held in the conference area.

Conference Room

Wifi is available in the conference room for free.  There are a limited number of electrical outlets available.  If you will need to plug in your computer during the conference, you may want to bring an extension cord and a powerstrip so others can share.

Fellowship

There is opportunity for fellowship Monday and Tuesday evening.  There is a cash bar in the conference area where you may purchase beer, wine, or mixed drinks.  There will be snacks available and plenty of room to gather and space to play cards.  We will also have a suite available in the hotel.  This space will be smaller and not so easy to host large groups.

Retired Brothers

You and your spouse are honored guests of the District at this conference.  The registration fee, food, lodging and gas money will be paid by the District.  Hotel reservations should be made by you.  Please hold to the registration deadline of March.  Follow the retiree directions at welsmn.org.  Retirees should not pay any expenses with the registration.

Wives Agenda

We welcome wives and families to join us at the conference.  On Tuesday morning the wives have an opportunity to visit the Minnesota State Public School for dependent and neglected children museum.  More information can be found here: www.orphanagemuseum.com.  There is no charge for this tour.  Lunch will be on your own that day.  The Medford Outlet Center Mall is just a few minutes North of Owatonna on I-35.  On Wednesday morning, the wives will meet with Ms. Peggy Myers for open discussion on current issues facing pastor’s wives.  This will take place at the conference center.  Childcare will be available during the session on Wednesday morning with Peggy.

Payments

All payments for the conference will be done online at WELSMN.org and will take place via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). You will need to have access to the Payor’s ABA bank routing number (first 9 numbers on the bottom left side of the check) and checking account number (the 7 numbers before the check number on the bottom of the check) to complete the registration. Thank you for saving the district significant money by using EFT. Use of this electronic path will also simplify the registration process for your conference host as well. (Please, no physical checks!)
